2024 Cat Drag & Burlesque Show Raises $3,000 for Alberta Sphynx Rescue

We are so thrilled to ameownce that our 2024 Cat-themed Drag & Burlesque Fundraising Show held at 9910 in partnership with Queer Joy YEG raised $3,000 for the Alberta Sphynx Rescue!!!

This Adults Only 18+ fundraising event in partnership with Queer Joy YEG was one of our standalone CATivities held as part of the Edmonton Cat Festival MONTH—celebrating our 10-year anniversary.

While our main festival proceeds are being donated to Community Cats Edmonton, Enoch Animal Services and Greater Edmonton Animal Rescue Society, we designated this particular event as a smaller fundraiser for Alberta Sphynx Rescue.

We say smaller—but this $3,000 is going to make a huge impact for the work the ameowzing crew at Alberta Sphynx Rescue do!

Earlier in the evening we held a Cat Block Party (/Patio Party) at Dolly’s Cocktails and The Common—where they also offered catty food and drink for purrticipants.

Community Cats Edmonton, Enoch Animal Services and Greater Edmonton Animal Rescue Society were also on hand at the Block Party to meet and greet with purrticipants (and cuddle kittens!)

Shout-out to Edmonton Cat Festival Organizer James Harley for coordinating the event alongside the ameowzing team at Queer Joy YEG.

And of course we want to thank all purrticipants who came out to our first-ever cat-themed Cat Drag & Burlesque Show!!

It was so meowch fun and most impurrtantly—all for a great cause.

As part of this year’s main festivities we raised more than $20,000 for Community Cats Edmonton, Enoch Animal Services and Greater Edmonton Animal Rescue Society as well! Stay tuned for a cheque presentation + final figure ameowncement on that front, but in the meantime, we are so proud to be donating $3,000 to support Alberta Sphynx Rescue.

ABOUT Alberta Sphynx Rescue

Alberta Sphynx Rescue provides a loving sanctuary for hairless, partially hairless, and specialty breed cats who in recent years due to the increasing popularity of unique and exotic breeds, has also led to a rise in irresponsible breeding practices resulting in a surge of cats being acquired by individuals ill-prepared to meet their specialized needs. Many of these cats end up in distressing situations, lacking the proper care and attention they require for optimal health and well-being. Alberta Sphynx Rescue provides a safe haven for these vulnerable cats, offering them a second chance at a happy and fulfilling life.
