The Edmonton International Cat Festival is thrilled to ameownce that thanks to support from so meowny cat lovers, the total raised for local rescues from this year’s 2024 CATivities is $24,000—bringing our total donated to rescues since 2014 up to $170,000!
$21,000 was split between the three main rescue donation recipients for 2024: Community Cats Edmonton, Enoch Animal Services and Greater Edmonton Animal Rescue Society (GEARS)—who each received $7,000 from the Edmonton Cat Festival and Cat Fest Month CATivities. An additional $3,000 was donated to Alberta Sphynx Rescue, raised from the smaller Cat Drag Show night held during Cat Fest Week (previously announced).

The Edmonton Cat Festival Organizing Committee held a cheque presentation at 2024 Main Stage Sponsor Homes Alive Pets for this year’s donation!
Thank you to Community Cats Edmonton, Enoch Animal Services and Greater Edmonton Animal Rescue Society (GEARS) and Alberta Sphynx Rescue for attending with kitties for the photo op and sharing the impact of how the donation will support their life-changing services for cats and kittens in need in the Edmonton area.

“This money will go towards helping our different programs with our strays that come in, being able to vet cats and kitten who come in when people leave them abandoned, and get them ready for adoption. We also have a Guardian Angel program where we help people who are going into treatment for various things, hospitals, addictions programs, we look after the cats and kittens until they are ready to be released and we can reunite them with their beloved animals and that’s obviously really important, we want to keep them together.”
– Greater Edmonton Animal Rescue Society (GEARS)

“There are over 70,000 stray and feral cats in Edmonton so our group helps specifically to take some of these cats in, either Trap-Neuter-Return them if they are feral or rehabilitate them or adopt them out. The funds we got from this year’s Cat Fest are helping us in a trailer park we are in where there are 65 feral cats – the funds will help that area and that community.”
– Community Cats Edmonton

“Enoch Animal Services is the only on First Nations-land shelter facility in all of Alberta that we are aware of. All of the proceeds from the Cat Festival will help our cats tremendously this year. We are able to buy an upgraded kitty condo cage so our cats have a bigger space while they’re with us in the shelter and it will help outfit the cage with accessories so they’re comfy and cozy and have everything they need while they search for their furever family. As a small rural shelter we really appreciate these events for rescues because we don’t have big sponsorships so we rely on the community to really help us out.”
– Enoch Animal Services

“The donations from this year’s Cat Festival will go to dentals for any of the cats that come in with us, food, medical, vaccines, and general care. The donations make a big impact to cats who come with us needing medical care.”
– Alberta Sphynx Rescue

We are also always interested in hearing from cat lovers who may be interested in helping us put on Edmonton’s biggest cat-themed pawties in support of local cat rescues! Does that sound like you?
