Willow (@wawa_willow_scottishfold)

As a cat ameowssador, Willow the Scottish Fold represents the quiet cats people often overlook. While many events spotlight bold, outgoing, highly social personalities, her gentle, slightly shy nature gives visibility to cats who aren’t instant extroverts but are deeply loving once they feel safe. That’s a huge and often underrepresented portion of real cats, especially in rescues. Through her presence, we also prioritize education without being preachy. As a Scottish Fold, Willow naturally opens the door to conversations around responsible ownership and understanding breed-specific needs, grounded in care, awareness, and respect.

Little Kitty Rex

Rex is a friendly sphynx that was born without two front legs. He enjoys burrowing under blankets and cleaning other cat friends. Rex is a pretty easy going guy. He is also a classroom pet and he comes to school with me on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Kids will often gather around him to pet him and he obediently just stays put and loves an occasional treat. Rex is a happy camper. He’s gone camping and to the beach. As long as there is a blanket or a place for him to snuggle up, he’s happy. He enjoys meeting new people. He has inspired some students in creative writing activities and even helped them overcome some of the trauma in their lives!

Find Little Kitty Rex at their Vendor Meowcatplace booth from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2026. (Booth #26, Main Floor)

Caturday, May 2, 2026 – Edmonton Cat Tour – 10:30 a.m. TO 1 P.M.

The Edmonton International Cat Festival presents the inaugural Edmonton Cat Tour kicking off Edmonton Cat Festival Month on Caturday, May 2, 2026.

Inspired by Toronto Cat Tour, and similar cat tours around the world, this is an event where cat lovers come together and follow a planned walking route to see neighbourhood cats through windows or on porches.

Cats can stay inside and be seen from the window—it doesn’t need to be petted. And people do NOT enter homes! Participants stand on the sidewalk or lawn to interact / wave / view / snap photos of the cats. Though we’d love if participating cats/homes are open to having people on the tour come up to pet your cat, and/or if your cat is comfortable being brought out to your front porch or lawn to say hello to the crowd (safely leashed).

The Edmonton Cat Tour is another ameowzing way the Edmonton International Cat Festival hopes to bring the cat community together to help launch our Edmonton Cat Festival Month of CATivities culminating in our big Edmonton International Cat Festival on Sunday, May 31.

ABOUT ALBERTA SPHYNX RESCUE

Alberta Sphynx Rescue provides a loving sanctuary for hairless, partially hairless, and specialty breed cats who in recent years due to the increasing popularity of unique and exotic breeds, has also led to a rise in irresponsible breeding practices resulting in a surge of cats being acquired by individuals ill-prepared to meet their specialized needs. Many of these cats end up in distressing situations, lacking the proper care and attention they require for optimal health and well-being. Alberta Sphynx Rescue provides a safe haven for these vulnerable cats, offering them a second chance at a happy and fulfilling life.
