About Furget Me Not Animal Rescue

Founded in March 2018, Furget Me Not is a no-kill, volunteer drivennot for profit organization based in Edmonton, Alberta.

This animal rescue is dedicated to giving cats and kittens from local pounds, where they are at high risk of euthanasia, a chance for the rest of their lives to be the best of their lives.

Furget Me Not Animal Rescue works primarily in Edmonton and Parkland County, but do their best to support rural Alberta, and First Nations communities in Manitoba and Saskatchewan as much as possible as well.

They place cats in loving and nurturing foster homes while they wait for their perfect forever family. Through a network of supporters & volunteers, Furget Me Not is able to maximize the use of every dollar donated by keeping our administrative costs low, and by providing medical care in home when possible. All cats are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped prior to adoption.

How will Cat Festival support help Furget Me Not?

From Furget Me Not:

Due to the extremely high costs of caring for neonatal orphan kittens, special medical needs kitties and kitties coming out of high risk protective custody cases, it’s extremely difficult for Furget Me Not Animal Rescue to participate in addressing the cat problem in Edmonton by tackling TNR projects or assisting with trapping, vetting and relocating feral kitties.

Furget Me Not Animal Rescue will use the funds to work with existing home owner partners in Edmonton who are already caring for a high number of cats and kittens on their property that would likely be euthanized if they went through a typical animal control scenario.

Furget Me Not would like to spay/neuter and vaccinate and return to their caretakers. They would also like to assist more with the current cat problem in Maskwacis. Alberta, where there is a known issue of dumping local cats and kittens, pregnant cats etc. With access to more financial resources we would be able to help transfer these cats to our loving fosters, and get them the vet care they need before adoption.

As the regional “go to” even for large organizations when they have neonatal orphan kittens come into care, we are also trying to save for a second incubator which would allow us to take more than one kitten/one litter at a time (due to quarantine requirements we’re not able to mix multiple litters in the same incubator).

This year’s event will support other rescues too!

The 2023 Edmonton Cat Festival—while taking place in purrrson this year for the first since 2019—will look a bit different this May 2023.

We’ll share more information in a separate post!

But we do hope to be able to donate some smaller amounts to additional rescues, and also give some more visibility to rescues as well.

Thank you to all cat rescues who applied to be donation recipients for our 2023 event!

Stay tuned for more festival details!

Since 2014, the Edmonton Cat Festival has donated $130,000 to meowny local cat rescues.

Thanks to generous support from sponsors, partners, and ticket sales / donations from the community, we hope to continue making an impact for rescues helping cats in need.
