Purrticipate in the 2024 Student Cat Art Contest!

CALLING ALL EDMONTON SCHOOLS AND STUDENTS –  You’re invited to purrticipate in our Cat Art Contest!

Submitted works will be displayed at the festival and artists have a chance to win prizes! All artists also receive a free ticket to the festival.

Who is eligible for the 2024 Cat Art Contest?

Any student between Grades K-12 in the Greater Edmonton Region. 

HOW DO STUDENTS PURRTICIPATE IN THE CAT ART CONTEST?

We welcome ANY piece of VISUAL or WRITTEN artwork, as long as it’s related to cats!
  • Water colour, painting, crayons, poems, short stories, haikus—any form of visual or written art is accepted.
  • Paint or draw your cat, your neighbour’s kitty, Taylor Swift’s cats, cats and dogs, what cats mean to you. Write a story about cats, your cat, or a poem about the funny things your cat does.
  • There is no limit on what students can submit—we hope to bring out your inner kitty creativity!
  • Note: please keep in mind this is a family-friendly event and artwork will be displayed at the festival for all ages to see. As such, any artwork that contains inappropriate content will be disqualified from the contest. 

Please note – in order to purrticipate, students need to sign up via their teacher. Artwork will be physically collected and coordinated through teachers. If you are a teacher, please contact [email protected] to sign up your class! If you are a student, please share this with your teacher!

TEACHERS MUST SIGN UP BY APRIL 12, 2024.

WHEN IS THE SUBMISSION DEADLINE? 

We ask that all students submit to their TEACHER, so that we may pick up the physical visual or written pieces by: Monday, May 6th, 2024. 

The deadline to submit is May 6, 2024.

WHY SHOULD STUDENTS PURRTICIPATE?

  • All entries will be displayed at the Edmonton International Cat Festival on Caturday, May 25 for all to see!
  • Students who submit will receive a free ticket and are encouraged to bring their family and friends to the event.
  • Artists will be randomly selected to receive purr-fect prizes for participation.
  • Top 3 Winners voted on by festival attendees in both the VISUAL and the WRITTEN category will receive a cat-themed prize pack!

WHAT DO STUDENTS NEED TO INCLUDE IN THEIR SUBMISSION?

  • Name, Age/Grade, School
  • Teacher’s Name (so we contact you if you are a prize winner!) 
  • Title of your artwork 
  • Comments: How did you make it, who inspired you,
    Is there a story to this art piece? etc.

Example: 

  • Lisa, Grade 9, St. Rose Junior High School 
  • Mrs. Le 
  • Kitty Dancing in the Flowers
  • Visual art made on canvas with acrylic, this painting makes me feel happy and positive. If I can have even half the good day this kitty is having, then life is good.

FOR STUDENTS WHO SUBMIT WRITTEN CAT ART:

  • We will display poetry, short stories and other written cat art pieces on the Edmonton Cat Festival website in addition to at the event.
  • In your written art submission, please let us know if you would like to read your written cat art aloud during a Cat Poetry Slam on the Main Stage of the festival on May 25, 2024.
